As major cities around the world struggle to supply a huge demand for affordable urban housing, tiny houses are stepping in to help.

British architect, Bill Dunster, and his firm, ZEDfactory, have developed a new line of tiny houses on stilts that they believe could help bring affordable housing into cities.

The home is called the "ZEDpod" and has already garnered interest from the Oxford City Council. According to the Daily Mail, the city has already proposed a plan to build 50 of the ZEDpods, and meet their cost. If the project is a success, there could be plans to have another 1,500 homes built over Oxford's parks and ride sights.

The homes cost between £55,000 and £60,000 to install. Once built, the homes can be rented for £750 a month including utilities.

The ZEDpods pictured here were debuted at the Shanghai Art & Design Exhibition last year.
