The Prowhouse in Machiasport
Welcome to The Prowhouse, a lakeside cottage, designed by Machiasport's own Phil Rose, a poet and sea captain. This design of the 2-bedroom home is inspired by ships. The getaway sits overlooking the vast ocean and is nestled within 30+ acres of pristine woods, abundant wildlife, and inviting beaches. Among these acres, 12 are devoted to private hiking trails that gracefully meander along the water's edge.
The home's architectural marvel is its angular 'prow,' reminiscent of a ship's bow, and its floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the breathtaking view of Howards Cove. This charming crescent of ocean water and surrounding woodlands is cradled in the north by the distinctive Jasper Beach. Perched on a 130' cliff on the cove's southwestern arm, The Prowhouse offers an unmatched perspective, embraced by untouched forest. Its position guarantees not only a remarkable panorama but also complete seclusion, allowing our guests to indulge in unparalleled solitude.
Accommodating up to 4 people, The Prowhouse offers comfort and elegance. The master bedroom treats you to large windows that provide an awe-inspiring view of the ocean floor below the cliff. The second bedroom exudes cozy charm, adorned with blue and gold nautical maps of New England that infuse the space with a maritime spirit. The lower level encompasses a tastefully designed living room, a well-appointed dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom.
The home's décor harmoniously blends mid-century modern elements with nautical aesthetics, featuring vintage furnishings in teak and brass. While The Prowhouse boasts modern amenities after its recent renovation, stepping through its doors will transport you to the ambiance of the 1950s or 1960s.
A corner dedicated to literary delights holds a Danish desk, vintage books, an antiquated rotary phone, an Olivetti typewriter, and a classic Thorens turntable. Throughout the house, unconventional paintings and photographs capture nature's essence from a distinctive perspective.
A bathroom with a shower is conveniently situated on the first floor. Step out onto the deck, where a BBQ grill and inviting chairs and loungers await you, perfect for soaking in the scenery.
